Description:
The overall objectives of the assignment for the individual Social Safeguards and Gender Specialist are to lead the implementation and monitoring of social safeguards measures and gender action plan to ensure the project compliance with the Bank’s ISS requirements, as well as with the relevant Government of The Gambia policies and laws. Advising on issues related to gender, sex and sexuality, educating and establishing policies and procedures for gender acceptance. The Specialist will also focus on ensuring gender and social inclusion in the project activities and should be conversant with The Gambia Social Safeguard Regulation and Procedures and the Bank’s ISS and their application for civil works. The Specialist level of understanding should be adequate to facilitate Social Safeguard training, citizens’ engagement, gender and disability inclusion under the project. Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Social Safeguard Specialist will undertake Safeguard Preparation, Development and Implementation and ensure the planning and supervision of project activities in terms of social safeguard in accordance with project financing agreements and with the Project safeguards instruments (Environmental and Social Management Plan – ESMP and RAPs) to ensure all social safeguard issues are accurately addressed and provide expert guidance to the PMU.
